What is the IAI?
The Institute of Art and Ideas (IAI) is the organisation behind HowTheLightGetsIn. Founded in 2008, the IAI exists to bring philosophy and big ideas back to the centre of culture — not as abstract academic debates, but as urgent tools for rethinking the world around us.
The IAI challenges accepted wisdom, questions dominant narratives, and explores alternative ways of understanding reality in an age of uncertainty. Through festivals, debates, articles, courses, podcasts and digital platforms, it works to confront what it sees as a growing intellectual crisis, helping people navigate an increasingly complex and fast-changing world.
HowTheLightGetsIn is the IAI’s flagship philosophy and music festival, first launched in 2009 in Hay-on-Wye. Since then, the IAI has built a global audience.
